THE UNIVERSITY CLUB OF MONTREAL: BRINGING TOGETHER THE WISDOM AND EXPERIENCE OF OUR UNIVERSITY COMMUNITY.

The University Club of Montreal is proud to support our students and recent graduates with the creation of a category of membership just for you: the university category.

Our Club wants to honour its roots and congratulate our university community. Build your network now with your Club!

Founded in 1907, by the people like you, the University Club of Montreal is a meeting for business people, scientists and community representatives. It is here that many ideas found their starting points. Our founders wanted to create "a gathering place for graduates of all universities, offering them the amenities of fellowship in a suitable atmosphere."

In our technical epoch, people think that they don’t need to meet in real life. Is this really true for the business community? What could be better than a live discussion? In many cases, business relationships ensue only after a face-to-face with a strategic partner. Why not do so in our friendly and nice atmosphere? Human relations remain very important in professional life.

Today, we are proud to offer you our university category.

To whom does the new category apply?

"University member" applies to a person eligible for membership according to the criteria of membership of the Club who is currently a full-time student, at any level, or part-time graduate student, at any registered Canadian university. University membership will also be extended to the President or Managing Director of each student society (a maximum of one per student society). University membership will be extended six (6) months post-graduation.

The University Club of Montreal started writing its history more than 100 years ago. Our members hold dear that the Club is their home away from home in the heart of Montreal, their oasis amid hectic lives to dine, converse and breathe. Whether relaxing in the congenial and historic Leacock Lounge or engaging in friendly banter at the members’ round table, our members share in their appreciation of wine, scotch, good food and collegiality.

Our founders created a private Club where the intellectually curious get together to have fun, share, learn and grow. Our members hail from diverse backgrounds which further enhances the culture exchange. With our panoply of entertaining and interesting guest speakers and unique events, that have enhanced our reputation for many decades, our members have their haven.

In order to reflect our modern society, the Club recognizes the importance of influential women in our world of business. As such, the University Club of Montreal strives to demonstrate its appreciation of women everyday. Over the past three years, the Club has been delighted to welcome over 50 new women members. A BETTER WAY TO DO BUSINESS

Start your team off right for the morning brainstorming session with coffee and croissants and then relax and discuss that new project — no cell phones, no laptops, no distractions. Have lunch with your managers in the Billiard room while your junior team dines in the Breakfast room and discusses the tasks ahead. Then, head to the Founders room that has been prepped for the afternoon group session.  Seated in the boardroom, your team logs on to your corporate site via our Wi-Fi access, the conference phone gives access to out of town staff, the LCD projector reveals the latest corporate trends and the coffee and viennoiseries are continually refreshed. It’s private and discreet. A guest room has been reserved in one of our nearby hotel partners for the Vice-President. He’ll be refreshed before catching the early flight back to Toronto.

The University Club of Montreal is pleased to offer businesses corporate privileges.

For business

Among friends

A more comfortable way to relax

Now it’s time to unwind. Friends are waiting in the Leacock Lounge, where the mood is blessedly quieter. The sounds of the city faded behind French windows. The sommelier serves up a cocktail that is somehow just right for your mood. After sampling some homemade Clubhouse chips, head to the McCrae Library. Over a selection of tapas and on tap Montreal Brewery beer, play a quick game of pool before the Habs game starts on the big-screen TV.

You see an old friend settle in the club chairs and head over to chat. Chandra serves your favourite coffee as the last embers die in the fireplace. If you play your cards right, maybe he’ll order up a late night bottle of vintage wine from his private cellar housed at the Club and regale you with stories of older times and members gone but not forgotten.

Gastronomy at its best

An edible experience

You have guests coming to town and want to treat them to a night they’ll be talking about for the whole winter. You make your reservations early. You know the oyster parties always sell out. Champagne cocktails to start off the night while the fireplace crackles in the background. You’re seated at the centre table. Candles flicker underneath the stained glass windows. And the feast begins. Oysters served in many varieties. Your guests especially loved the bacon-wrapped deep fried oysters.  The buffet tables offer fine cheeses, breads, delicious salads and mouth-watering desserts, enough to satisfy even your pickiest guest. Finish the evening with Port and surprise your friends with a goodie-bag of the Club’s petit fours as you head out into the night.

Your father-in-law considers himself somewhat of a foodie. He calls on Monday to say he’ll be flying in for a mid-week visit. You call the expert Club staff for help. In less than 48 hours, they have a gourmet experience planned that will wow your discerning father-in-law. The Club concierge has arranged for a limousine to pick him up at the airport and a beautiful suite at the Ritz. A private room at the Club awaits you with a mantled fireplace and elegant art. James, wearing white gloves, greets you all with a smile. Amuse-bouches are served with champagne to start off what promises to be a gourmet experience. Eight courses, each paired perfectly with wines chosen by the sommelier, entertain the palate and all five senses. You swear you even see a little tear from the now smiling man at the other end of the table.

A social calendar

Where education meets comfort

You just finished work and head over to join the cocktail. A nice glass of wine after a hectic day is a good way to start the evening. Canapés are served on silver platters as the guest of honour heads from group to group giving everyone a few minutes of his time. The lights are dimmed; the signal that it is time to head to the University room to be seated for the presentation portion of the evening. The waiter discretely fills your wine glass during the talk. Tonight, it is a lecture on the current situation in the Middle East. Last week, it was a chocolate tasting and you can’t wait for the upcoming talk on art in Venice. On the Club’s private website, you see who else is registered and now look forward to catching up with old friends after the presentation for an impromptu dinner.

For the next generation

Connections to last a lifetime
