Wedding cake

Does it exist a wedding without newlyweds or without wedding cake? No, absolutely not.

Do you know that the tradition to bake a wedding cake begins in Roman Empire, but it wasn’t the wedding cake, it was a bread? Traditionally, the bridegroom broke the bread on the head of the bride, then he distributed the pieces of the bread to the guests, by dividing symbolically with them happiness and chance. After that he ate together with his bride the crumbs of bread that rested on the head of the bride. This ceremony symbolized fecundity and prosperity.

In medieval England, the tradition was to put the pile of sweet rolls between the newlyweds and they had to embrace each other above this heap. After a visit to one of the English wedding, a French confectioner created a croquembouche, that is popular until our days in France. In England until the 19th century the wedding cake was modest. However, in the 17th century Thomas Rich, who was a pupil of confectioner, became the creative father of the graded wedding cake and he was inspired by St Bride’s Church, on Fleet Street in London. In the middle of the 19th century, the graded wedding cakes became very popular for marriages of the English aristocracy.

The time goes on, but the tradition of the cutting of the wedding cake stays. In our days, the cutting of the wedding cake is an inevitable symbol of marriage. Our team, in collaboration with our partner Gâteaulogie, will be delighted to help you create the wedding cake of your dream and the memories of cake will make more delicious every moment of your family life.

What does the wedding cake mean for you?
